Smithy
and Mary pictured on the S.S. Monterey as they arrived in Los
Angeles on 19 May 1934. The purpose of the visit was to supervise
the construction of the Lockheed Altair which Smithy would later name
Lady Southern Cross in Mary's honour. Note that Mary is wearing
the Southern Cross brooch which was a gift from Smithy.
