Personnel from RAAF Base Edinburgh unveiled a new permanent sergeants mess display on Wednesday, 20 April 2022, to the Air Force P-3 Orion (A9-754) that ditched on departure from Cocos Island on 26 April 1991 killing Flying Officer Thomas Henniker from No. 10 Squadron. CPL Corey Eime and SGT Craig Schippan described it as an artistic representation of a P-3C Orion observer’s window. “We included the gentle curve of the aircraft fuselage finished in the original platform series of white over grey livery,” CPL Eime said. “The roundel is a section of original wing plank cut from the aircraft during its salvage recovery and mounted behind the observer’s window.”
