The
Lady Southern Cross meets up with Smithy's famous Fokker FVIIB-3m
VH-USU Southern Cross at Cloncurry on 29th September 1934. This
chance encounter marked the end of Smithy's dash to England to compete
in the Centenary Air Race when Harry Purvis, who was piloting the Southern
Cross, discovered serious cracks in the engine cowling of the Altair.
