The fuselage of the Lady Southern Cross has been lifted from the wing to gain access to the leaking oil tank. During this operation it was discovered that a spot on the bottom of the large fuel tank had been rubbing on a bolt which had worn the aluminum paper thin. The tailwheel is supported by a forklift which is out of view. The photo was taken in one of the USAAC hangars at Wheeler Field, Hawaii in October 1934. Picture: Tim Kalina Collection
